Who is the client?
A Irish-Italian family-owned neighborhood grille and pub that has been around for over 20 years serving the St. Louis community. They serve up American and Italian dishes. It attracts mostly regulars, the kind of place that is great for meeting up for a drink and an appetizer after the workday. It’s the kind of place where memories are made.
The Problem
Dulany's wanted to grow and bring more customers into their pub. Nearby locals was not an issue, they wanted other bar-goers from other parts of the metro-east to stop by for a good time but also experience their special half-pound burger that the locals rave about.
Their old site was vague, dated, no photos to show the vibe of the place or food, and did not have their menu readily available.
My Role
I collaborated with my team on the sitemap, prototyping and user research. I solely took charge of the user interface of the site; from color, illustration, font, photography, and video. I then handled off all designs and assets to the developer. Lastly, I worked with another team member to take photography and video on-site of Dulany's location.
Main Points from Stakeholder Interviews:
Key Differentiators
A family with Irish-Italian descent members that own the restaurant. They are known for their Famous Dulany's Burger and hold a top priority for a great experience for every customer.
Target Audience
St. Louis locals, metro-east area (Missouri and Illinois side), people looking for a laid-back restaurant for business people to take clients to, friends to meet up, family to spend time together, to having small parties. Essentially it is a place for everyone.
Sitemap & Homepage Layout:
I collaborated with my team members to design out a sitemap. The homepage needed to make the best first impression if they wanted to get new customers in. So we felt that highlighting their specials (Famous Dulany's burger), telling their history, craft beer selection, testimonials, and a gallery of food photos was going to be the ticket.
For other pages for the site, it was important to have a page just for the menu items as well as displaying specials throughout the week.
Wireframes
Once the sitemap was established, I began to layout wireframes based off of my collection of web mood boards as well as Dulany's local competitors.
